The fishing action slowed a little for the boats of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association. Low temperatures, flood tides, and intermittent winds seemed to take the appetite away from the fish. Captain Frank Camarda had the head boat “Miss Beach Haven” out last Saturday looking for striped bass but managed to find only a few bluefish and one keeper striper. The bass did tip the scales at 14-pounds. The “Miss Beach Haven” will be sailing for codfish this Saturday, May 21, on a trip limited to 32 anglers. Contact Captain Frank to reserve a spot. Captain Fran Verdi has been fishing for fluke on the “Dropoff” but finding the water temperatures keeping the bite a slow one. He reports his live bait worked best and anticipates better action when the water temperature rises. His back bay striper catches have slowed, but he is encouraged with the appearance of bunker schools off the beach. Captain Fran predicts a renewed bite for drumfish with the full moon this month. He is also looking forward to the onset of the open season for black sea bass which will begin on May 28. Additional information on the association can be found at www.BHCFA.com or by calling 1 |
